Grief

Title: Grief and Hope. An image of Jenny Lake in the Grand Tetons, where smoke and haze obscure the sun and cloud the mountains in the evening sunset.

How do you grieve today?

In silence

A small box in a corner
hidden from visitors
Weighted and Looming
heavy on your body

Sinking knees with every breath.

~

A wail

A shriek, the siren call of tears
Roars through parched lips
rattling the windows

An earthquake shaking heart.

~

The jolt

A memory, hands entwined
he was flesh and pulse.
Self-soothe pressing fingers into palm,

CPR for the soul.

~

In tune

Music plays familiar beats,
intimate code,
with lyrics that call you home,

Songlines tempting you to follow.

~

How do you grieve today?

Fissures begin to crack
through armour
letting Love trickle
in
a
   morsel
of food
a
   bouquet
of flowers

Arms lift wide, welcoming
embraces

Sleep
in time with the dog's steady breathing,
warmth, pressing comfort
where the ghost cannot

Dreams of holding on,
letting go,
feeling the answers.

Love isn't lost,
it waits for you;
for you
to live.
